Waidmesser - Game Keeper
PUMA Waidmesser / Game Keeper, the model number is 3591. This knife is a pre 1964 model. It is a unique Waidmesser as it has a Phillips screwdriver instead of a cork screw. Very few with the Phillips screwdriver are known to exist. This knife has genuine stag handles with the silver hex shield. There is no guarantee control number on the knife. This indicates the knife was made prior to 1964. The model number is 3591. This is an all time classic PUMA knife mint in the factory wood presentation box.
The knife came with the factory leather sheath. This knife was hand made (Handarbeit") in Solingen Germany as the knife making capitol of the world since 1769. The blade is 4 1/4" long and the knife is 8 3/4" overall in length. The blade is made from German Besteel steel.
The handles are from gorgeous stag with lots of character. The handles are pinned with five brass rivets. The finger guard is made from polished German silver. The front of the blade is etched with the PUMA logo PUMA WERK - SOLINGEN MADE IN GERMANY - HANDARBEIT - BESTELL No. - 3591.
This is a great example of a high quality vintage PUMA knife. This PUMA knife was hand made at PUMA Werks in Solingen Germany prior to 1964. It is made to the the highest PUMA quality.
The second Waidmesser is also a pre 1964 without the guarantee control number. It has a cork screw and came in the factory dark green box.
The Waidmesser knife was made for hoofed game. It has several tools available such as a hunting knife with a saw stored in the handle, a pry blade and, in very early models, either an awl or a corkscrew. In the later models (around 1970), this knife was only available with a corkscrew. The Waidmesser knife was developed with the help of Walter Frevert. The stag handle has the inlaid hex silver engraving plate. In 1979 PUMA began making a stainless steel model. The model number is 11 3597.
